The 2010 Bentley Continental Supersports is a coupe. It has a 6.0-litre turbocharged twelve-cylinder engine producing 621 hp (463 kW), with a 6-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. 0–60 mph takes 3.7 seconds and top speed is 204 mph (328 km/h).
ABOUT THE 2010 BENTLEY CONTINENTAL SUPERSPORTS
The 2010 Bentley Continental Supersports is the most extreme version of the first-generation Continental GT coupe. Its 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged W12 was uprated to 621 hp and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm), driving all four wheels through a six-speed ZF automatic with faster “Quickshift” gearchanges. In its launch form the Supersports was a strict two-seater.
A lighter, harder Continental
Revealed in 2009 as a 2010 model, the Supersports revived a historic Bentley name. Engineers removed the rear seats, fitted lightweight carbon-fibre-backed front seats and standard carbon-ceramic brakes, and shed around 110 kg compared with the GT Speed. The all-wheel-drive system was given a more rear-biased torque split to sharpen handling. It was also Bentley’s first car able to run on E85 bioethanol as well as petrol.
Performance
Bentley quoted 0–60 mph in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 204 mph, figures that put the Supersports among the fastest production cars of 2010. Stiffer suspension settings and wider tracks give it a more focused character than other Continentals, though it remains comfortable enough for long journeys. The behind-seat space can carry soft luggage in place of passengers.
Buying one today
The Supersports shares the first-generation car’s known weak points, including air suspension components, electrical faults and costly W12 maintenance. Carbon-ceramic brake discs are durable but very expensive to replace when worn, so their condition is worth checking.
Rivals
Its rivals included the Aston Martin DBS, Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano and Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series.
