The 2024 Audi RS 5 Coupe is the high-performance two-door version of the second-generation A5 (B9), in the facelifted form that arrived for the 2021 model year. It is powered by a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 rated at 444 hp and 442 lb-ft (600 Nm), with quattro all-wheel drive sending power through an eight-speed tiptronic automatic, the only gearbox offered.
Late in the lifecycle
By 2024 the RS 5 Coupe was one of the last models of its generation, sold in the closing years before Audi restructured its mid-size line-up and retired the A5 Coupe body. Changes for this stage were mostly about packaging and equipment rather than mechanical updates; the facelift had already brought slimmer headlights, a wider single-frame grille and a touchscreen-based MMI system in place of the earlier rotary controller.
What it is like
Compared with the naturally aspirated V8 of the earlier B8 RS 5, the turbocharged V6 delivers far more low-down torque and better economy, at the cost of some aural drama. The quattro system normally sends more torque to the rear, and a sport differential can shuffle it between the rear wheels. The cabin seats four adults in reasonable comfort, and the boot is usefully sized for a coupe.
Practical points
Fuel use is high in town but tolerable on the motorway; the EPA figures work out at roughly 13 L/100km city and 9.4 L/100km highway. Large wheels and low-profile tyres make the ride firm and tyre replacement relatively frequent.
