ABOUT THE 2023 AUDI A7
The 2023 Audi A7 is a large five-door liftback from the second generation of the A7 Sportback (C8). In the US it is powered by the 55 TFSI turbocharged 3.0-litre V6, rated at 335 hp and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm), with a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic and quattro all-wheel drive. A 48-volt mild-hybrid system is standard.
Where it sits
The C8 A7 went on sale in the US for the 2019 model year, so the 2023 car represents a well-developed version of the design. It sits between the A6 saloon and the S7 in Audi’s range, offering a more dramatic shape than the A6 with similar mechanical foundations. The 48-volt system runs a belt-driven starter-generator, allowing the engine to switch off while coasting and restart smoothly.
Interior and technology
The cabin is dominated by Audi’s dual-touchscreen MMI arrangement, with a 10.1-inch upper display for media and navigation and an 8.6-inch lower display for climate controls, alongside the virtual cockpit instrument panel. Material quality is high and the rear seats are comfortable for adults despite the sloping roof. The large tailgate gives access to a long, flexible luggage area.
Buying one today
The touch-based controls take some getting used to, and some drivers find them harder to use on the move than physical buttons. When buying, check that all electronic features operate correctly, look for a complete service history and inspect tyres and brakes, particularly on cars with larger wheels.
Rivals
The A7 competed with the BMW 840i Gran Coupe, the Mercedes-Benz CLS 450 and the Porsche Panamera.
